I wish your next year will be as new as "New Years" should be. After all, it would be crazy to obtain different results doing the same thing.May new horizons be revealed to your eyes, with the same intensity and strength of a passion that carries dreams and sow them in reality.May God's grace give us comfort and peace. And love, even if briefly. Be safe and light.

Happy new year!!!

So, what about the new Mac OS Leopard dock?

A lot of discussion has been thrown about the new Mac OS interface features, specially when it comes about the new dock, and how icons have been displayed over it. We have been testing the developer's version of Apple's new "feline", and, as icon designers, we have came accross questions that also seem to have some real importance to our fellows around the world.

The main point of discussion is based on some subtle inconsistencies that the new dock presents, when put against Apple's HIG.

We have found this very interesting ... [read more]

After all, what is an icon?

Our Chief Art Director Everaldo wrote an awesome text about what is an icon in a semiotics and phycologic view is in his personal web-blog. Here is a little stretch of it: "The word icon comes from the greek word "Eikon" that means image, and according to the semiotic definition of Charles S. Pierce,"icons are signs that relate to their objects by resemblance". It's a really interisting text. Check it out the full text at www.everaldo.com/blog/ and this way you can also see his new personal site. Don't waste any more time and check it out! ... [read more]

Crystal Project finally released!

After about one and a half year of really hard work, it is now finally time to present the newest version of the so-loved Crystal Icon set. It's a pleasure to say that, because we at Yellow Icon are really involved with this project. Uncountable hours of work and some nights without sleeping were dedicated to it, and releasing it to the public today is a great achievement for us.
This is probably the biggest update of Crystal, the majority of icons have been completely refreshed and redesigned, others have been added, special care was given to every last pixel. Attentive to the last interface trends, this new set will be provided also in 256x256 sizes, compatible with Windows Vista. The look'n'feel has been improved, and evolved from the style "fun" and sometimes even "childis ... [read more]

Back in the 80`s, Steven Spielberg launched a film that would change many lives, including the lives of our designers.
With a nice script, cool special effects and a car that no one can forget, that was
"Back to The Future". As movie freaks we are, we decided to present the fans of this great movie with a cool set of exclusive icons.
The designer behind those great icons is Rhandros Dembicki, one of the finest designers at Yellow Icon Studio. Rhandros is addicted to science fiction movies and is a h ... [read more]

Cool icon flatness.

Just a few months ago, while talking about icons and the different ways of depicting them, a different idea came around, just for fun. André and Everaldo were discussing about the use of gradients, gaussian blurs, and stuff alike. The point was, would a mac icon with no gradients or shade effects be still elegant and realistic? André, passionate for vector-based graphics, decided to give it a shot. The kind of game let's-see-what-happens, he started to play with a few icons. Only flat colors and shapes. No gradients, no blurs. Cut the story short, the results were cool, really, and it was funny to draw 41 icons that way.

So... dear folks, this fresh icon set made just for fun is now avai ... [read more]

We went together to see the new Spidey movie, a couple weeks ago, a little time after its release. You know, it's the kind of film to be seen on the big screen. And, despite what great part of the critics have said about the film, overall, we loved it. We've heard that there were too much villains fighting for some screen time, that there were too much coincidences and some unrealistic and obvious moments... but hey, it's not supposed to be super-reallistic, like comics aren't. It's just a totally cool super-hero hanging between NY's skyscrapers, villains, and the love of some beautifull ladies. What else could you expect? A Shakespearean philosop ... [read more]

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Kaaawabanga!

A total nostalgy hit us just when the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie came around. We've watched the animation on the big screen together and, you know, the idea of doing all these green dudes land around everybody's desktops was just unavoidable.
Edson Farias, one of our best icon designers, is the man behind this incredibly cool icon set. He's loved TMNT since its very begining on the media, and couldn't help drawing everything like a mad fan. Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, Donatello, and the always wise Master Splinter are there in a set of 9 icons. Absolutely ninja-cr ... [read more]

We love Mozilla apps. Really. We have followed Firefox and Thunderbird since their very first beta versions. They're a fantastic applications and we got excited with their ever-growing popularization. So, if we are icon designers, why not making some custom icons for these so-loved softwares?
We really like the original icons - all credits and praise to Jon Hicks, from hickdesign, only stunning works, by the way. So, we wanted to play around with those, keeping the same soul, and yet giving them some tweaks and modifications. The goal ... [read more]
